Farr 30 World Championship 2012 - Båstad - Day one race 1

Today it was cloudy, humid and hot conditions. Wind blowing from southeast over the high hills 10-15 knots. Båstad conditions that reminds me of a Swedish Championship in Express 1991. Very tricky, shifty and gusty conditions. Similar to preWorlds if I understood it right.
The racecommitte did two attempts before they decided to go for black flag in the third.
As all races counts in the world series a DSQ would be devistating.
In this picture Team Farr Bar and Martin Strandberg in SWE381 has a wounderful position. Enough space in leeward. S/Y Maskinen with Noel Barkelius is a bit squeezed but okey posiotion. The two american boats and the german boat started further down the starting line.
A few minutes after the start Team Farr bar has a good control over the fleet. The dutch team as well as SWE 34 and SWE 622 turned and went out to the right side of the course. The dutch team went back to starboard to not loose contact with the americans and the German team.
Just before the rounding, a few hudred meters more to go, Farr Bar seemed to have full control and a lead. Just before the mark the left side payed off and 5 boats came in just in front of them.
Barking Mad must be the most well maintained Farr 30 in the world. Agree?
Dutch, Americans, Germans, first swedes Orca, Strandberg and Barkelius. Very tight in those shifty conditions.
Downwind it tightened up a little but when rounding up at the left gate mark it is still the dutch team in lead followed by the americans.
Very nice to see the boat handling in the first part of the fleet.
After second beat it the present world champions from 2011 has taken control.
Very tight all the way to the finnish line and a tough fight all the way downwind.

After today´s three races the rusults are both american boats in top followed by the Dutch team:

Hey thanks for the update Anders! Great pics! How do you like the Groovederci boat? Does she still has red lips on her hull? I raced the Tour de France against those guys!

Hi Hubert
Thanks.
The Grovederci boat and Barking Mad sailed very well. The dutch boat also impressed. Good speed and boathandling already after short time in the boat. Germans are good to. Competetive fleet.
Best results first day of the swedes has team Farr Bar from our club MSS.
